SUMMARY:Taking Positive Action
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will review what positive action means for employers and how it can be a route to attract a diverse range of candidates. Many employers are reluctant to take positive action measures\, however they have been proven to be hugely successful and come with legal backing. The workshop will include a presentation from an employment law expert from Morton Fraser and will build knowledge and confidence enabling employers to be bolder in their equality and diversity efforts. \nThis workshop will include: \n\nWhat positive action is and how to lawfully implement positive action measures.\nHow to write inclusive job adverts by eliminating gendered language and unconscious bias.\nNetworking with other employers and training providers to share best practice.\nDevelop or strengthen your relationship with Equate Scotland’s experts and book bespoke follow up support and/or training.\nRefreshments and lunch.\n\nThis event is hosted and delivered in partnership with Morton Fraser and is designed for employers and training providers in STEM. It is open to people of all genders and designed to cater to a wide range of professionals. Strategists\, directors\, HR professionals\, recruitment consultants\, equality\, diversity and inclusion officers\, line managers and board members may find the event particularly relevant. \n

Come along to our Equate MeetUps to meet other women\, find out about new opportunities and share any advice you have for others.\nThis MeetUp will focus on starting your career in STEM and returning to work after a careerbreak. If you’re interested in starting your career\, or you are thinking about returning to work after a break (long or short)\, come along to hear about FDM’s opportunities and the support Equate Scotland provide.\nThis will be an opportunity to find a mentor/be a mentor for those who are interested. SUMMARY:Constructionarium Scotland 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Constructionarium Programme is a 3-day hands-on construction experience aimed at women students in their 2nd year of a civil engineering or built environment related degree or HNC/HND level college students. \nAttendance at this course provides an opportunity for students to develop hands on practical skills and knowledge that has real value in the Construction industry. The experience is designed to give you an increased understanding of how engineered solutions constantly evolve during the construction phase of a project. \nDuring the course students will work in teams to design and build a scaled down version of a wind turbine\, under the guidance of a professional contractor and an engineering consultant. \nHow you will benefit: \n\nGain an improved understanding of technical documentation\nExperience with working with tolerances\nUnderstand how interdependencies work in a real environment\nExperience of managing a site and co-ordination of activities\nWorking with different materials\nGain onsite experience that you can include on your CV – making you stand out to future employers\nAn great opportunity to develop your team working\, communication\, problem solving and decision making skills\nMeet other women studying Built Environment subjects and start to build your peer network\n\nClick here to apply. \nDeadline for applications is May 3rd 2019 \n  \n \n
