National Services Division (NSD) plans, commissions and performance manages high quality services, programmes and networks for the NHS in Scotland. It facilitates service change across NHS Scotland to ensure consistent, equitable provision of high quality, safe, effective, person centred services to meet the needs of the population of Scotland.


Within NSD the National Strategic Network Teams provide networks with consistent, high quality managerial and strategic support to ensure they achieve aims and objectives agreed through national commitments supported by Scottish Government. We also facilitate links to integrate networks into operational management and local, regional and national planning structures within and beyond healthcare.


The Programme Manager for the Community Networks, with focus on Healthcare for police and prisons and veterans. There will be a need to develop appropriate governance structures to support this new development, not least and including the Integrated Joint Boards (IJBs)    


The ideal candidates will have strong experience in health service management, planning of services, programme management and quality improvement.


This is a challenging role that requires excellent skills in leadership and managing change in a complex, and dynamic environment. The successful candidate will be part of a senior management team within the NSD who support each other. The posts will also deputise for the Associate Director as required.


The post will be based in Edinburgh at Gyle Square where the majority of NSD are based (with second office in Glasgow), with frequent travel throughout Scotland. A pool car is available for business use.

Health Protection Scotland (HPS) works with its partners to protect the Scottish public from being exposed to hazards which damage their health, and to limit any consequential health impact.

The Travel and International Health (T&IH) team is part of the wider clinical group in HPS which includes the Gastro-intestinal and Zoonoses (GIZ) and Environmental Public Health (EPH) teams. These teams work co-operatively to address public health concerns of a global nature, ensuring the public health system responds rapidly to new and unexpected threats to health of all kinds.

The T&IH team are leaders in the delivery of travel medicine advice, recommendations and services to both health professionals and the public, across the United Kingdom, and internationally. A key pillar of this involves developing and maintaining the TRAVAX and fitfortravel websites that provide continually updated information on health risks for travellers, their prevention and treatment. The team also lead on issues relating to port and migrant health, are fully involved with and collaborate in international communicable disease surveillance networks, and have responsibility for the Yellow Fever Vaccinating Programme (YFVP) in Scotland.

A vacancy has arisen within the T&IH team for a Senior Nurse. We are looking for an experienced individual to provide expert guidance and consultancy in travel health to a broad range of stakeholders. In this role you will be required to have a good understanding of epidemiological and research methods, and be able to critically appraise scientific and clinical literature in order to inform the provision of evidence-based and best practice advice. You will be expected to operate at senior level across most of the varied work of the team, but will assume the lead role for delivery of the YFVP in Scotland (including the strategic planning, development and improvement of this important service) and for co-ordination and management of  outputs from the Scottish Malaria Advisory Group. Line management and active clinical practice responsibilities are also included in the post.

This post, covering Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, provides a challenging role for a suitably experienced and motivated medical laboratory professional able to work in a busy and changing environment.  Supporting the Regional Head of Service you will be responsible for the day to day activities of the Raigmore Hospital Blood Bank and Red Cell Immunohaematology Sections providing a regional reference service for the surrounding hospitals in Red Cell Serology. The base for the post is negotiable but the post holder will require to be based in the Inverness site a minimum of 3 days per week.  

Applicants should be a current member of Health and Care Professions Council and able to demonstrate success in a supervisory role within a critical laboratory service operating to tight deadlines. You will have a wealth of experience of working in a red cell serology environment with an in depth knowledge of blood transfusion and will be able to demonstrate your ability to absorb current and new developments in the field of transfusion associated activities. A Post graduate professional qualification or equivalent experience within Transfusion Science would be beneficial to the role, which will align with technical abilities to support service delivery; in parallel it’s important that you have a proven track record in management, leadership, teaching abilities as well as your awareness of the importance of meeting our customers’ and stakeholders needs.  

The post requires close Multidisciplinary team working and excellent interpersonal skills and you will be required to work flexibly to meet the SNBTS corporate objectives.

The primary responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to:

Strong organisational, forward planning and problem solving abilities are also essential. The post holders will work in selected areas across the respiratory and immunisation teams, for example, on influenza and other vaccine preventable diseases such as meningococcal disease.


You will support a full range of public health activities including collecting, managing, analysing and reporting surveillance data from routine and non routine sources. For example, these might include the drafting of the HPS weekly respiratory report, monitoring and reporting of vaccine uptake and evaluation of vaccine programme effectiveness.


Responsibilities will also include liaising and collaborating with a number of stakeholders such as policymakers, NHS boards, laboratory staff, clinicians and other experts.


You will have an enthusiastic approach and excellent organisation skills; a primary degree in a scientific or clinical subject; training or experience in epidemiological methods; well developed analytical skills, including familiarity with statistical analysis tools (e.g. R, SPSS, STATA); and the ability to critically appraise and interpret surveillance and epidemiological data.


You will be able to demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills and have highly developed verbal and written communication skills. You will have a proven track record as a team player and be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.


It is vital that you demonstrate the NSS values of working with respect and care, openness and integrity, to focus on our customers, demonstrate commitment to each other and excel and improve. A postgraduate degree in a relevant field; record of publications, project management experience and knowledge of the NHS are desirable but not essential.

In line with Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorates guidance, National Services Division (NSD) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated Lead Clinician for the Scottish Pathology Network.
This is a key strategic role in promoting and driving forward the development of an effective, integrated, multidisciplinary service for **pathology** throughout Scotland. In this sessional appointment the postholder will work closely with clinical and other stakeholders and NSD colleagues.

Applicants will be leaders in their clinical field with experience in the provision and development of **pathology** services. A proven record in leading change, ability to work across traditional organisational, geographical and professional boundaries and a demonstrable understanding of the ethos of managed clinical networks are essential.
