Conservation Measures to Control the Killing of Wild Salmon: Allocating Catches to Individual Rivers

Salmon conservation regulations to control the killing of wild salmon in Scotland took effect in April 2016.

As a consequence of these regulations, the killing of Atlantic salmon in inland waters will be managed on an annual basis by categorising areas according to the conservation status of the associated salmon stock. Stocks are currently assessed by District or SAC.

It is generally agreed that salmon stocks should be managed at a river-by-river level and, in order to do so, we need to identify the numbers of fish taken on each river separately.

We are currently reviewing our records to identify those returns which may contain catches from more than one river. We will be contacting those responsible for completing these forms with a view to compiling data by individual river. You may download the questionnaire and blank catch return form sent out to these fisheries.
