To focus Government and public services on creating a more successful country, with opportunities for all of Scotland to flourish, through increasing sustainable economic growth.
The Government Economic Strategy (GES) sets out the measures that that we are taking to accelerate recovery, drive sustainable economic growth and develop a more resilient and adaptable economy. Faster sustainable economic growth is the key which can unlock Scotland's full potential and is the avenue through which we can deliver a better, healthier and fairer society. An updated GES - which considers the challenges and opportunities that have emerged from the marked change in economic conditions since 2007 and which builds upon the fundamental principles set out in the 2007 Strategy - was published in September 2011.
A challenging set of high level Purpose targets, that include specific benchmarks, will track progress in boosting Scotland's economic performance and ensure that the benefits of higher growth are sustainable and shared by all of Scotland.
