That the Parliament commends the initiative and work of the group, the East Sutherland Ladies, which has responded to the COVID-19 pandemic by creating a scrub-making circle; notes that the group was created by Isobel Ross alongside her friends, who have been making scrubs and giving them to local NHS settings and care homes, and acknowledges the important work that the team is doing at this difficult time.

That the Parliament congratulates the University of the Highlands and Islands on receiving £44,581 of Scottish Government funding in order to help NHS Highland health and social care staff cope with the impacts of COVID-19; notes that the project will use digital technologies to help prevent and treat psychological distress and also aim to enhance the resilience of health and care workers during the COVID-19 crisis, and understands that the university’s rural health and wellbeing team is also looking to secure funding to work with other groups in rural areas that may be particularly vulnerable to the negative impacts of COVID-19 on mental health and wellbeing, such as young people and those living with long-term conditions.

That the Parliament commends Thurso Community Development Trust and Caithness Foodbank’s Wick centre for distributing a range of local books to vulnerable and isolated people; understands that this was made possible by the donations of the John O’Groat Journal and Caithness Courier, which gave 150 copies of annual Caithness photos books to the community, and recognises that the photo books will provide some nostalgia, reminiscence and enjoyment for people who are not able to get out and about due to the present emergency.
