11 July 2017

First Minster Nicola Sturgeon officially opened the new Scottish Power HQ in Glasgow, and had the opportunity to tour the new facilities and meet with staff.

The company’s new HQ is the largest single-use office to be built in Glasgow for 25 years, and will act as the company’s global base for offshore wind. Glasgow-based experts will work to deliver major projects not only in the UK, but also the United States, Germany and France.

The First Minister said:

“Scottish Power’s new UK headquarters demonstrates this global company’s commitment to Scotland. It’s a fitting new home for a company that has been a huge asset to Glasgow, and the wider country, for many years.

“This is a really exciting time in the energy sector. What can be seen as a challenge is also a massive opportunity. We have set an ambitious target, which is having half of all our energy to be made by renewables by 2030, and that covers not just electricity but transport and heat as well.”

“This building will be home to almost 2,000 members of staff, and Scottish Power has committed to spending £4 million every day to support innovation and the transition to clean energy.”
