• Do you agree ancient woodlands are irreplaceable, national treasures that deserve the highest levels of legal protection in order that future generations are able to benefit from them?

• According to SNH’s website, Scotland has much less woodland than other European countries and less than half of Scotland’s woodlands are in good condition.  This is due to problems of poor management and neglect, over and under-grazing, invasive species and pathogens, fragmentation and climate change. Do our ancient and semi-native woodlands need our help?

• The Scottish Government is currently consulting on its National Planning Policy Framework 4. This Framework will guide planning policy in our country until 2050.  Should our remaining ancient and native woodlands be considered as priceless, irreplaceable assets and granted full legal protection?

• Our woodlands are threatened by new developments, over grazing, mountain bike trails, invasive species, pollution, climate change and others.  Do our ancient and native woodlands, which have helped to sustain, inspire and console us for centuries, deserve full legal protection now?

• The natural world and ‘green spaces’ are increasingly recognised as having positive impacts on our physical and mental health and wellbeing.  Is it acceptable that our most treasured ancient and native woodlands can be legally desecrated?

I would hope that with concern about climate change and the important part trees play that we would not follow Brazil and the Amazon and thaat Scotland where my roots are will save our ancient woodland- ,Please

These woods are well used by walkers, runners & cyclists (see Strava). There are far more trails than on maps. They are home to many birds (see BirdNET). They are vital to both. Once destroyed always lost. The proposed road would sever the tracks which link Durno, Gallows Hill woods (where I often see badgers), Sprottie Woods, Logie Woodlands at Easterton, Logie Woodlands, South Logie Woodlands (where I often see deer) and so on. Don't ruin this amazingly scenic network - with views and landscapes as beautiful and special as Bennachie.

Ancient Woodlands are not just the trees they are the entire environment in which they are located. The damage at this site has highlighted a gap in the existing legislation, that makes either SNH and Scottish Forestry unable to enforce protection for these areas. This should be rectified and I fully support this petition.

I was brought up in Ormiston and the yew tree is a symbol of Ormiston and should be left for other generations to enjoy

Save our beautiful natural habitats.

In the days of global warming all forests are essential for the future of the planet. Time spent walking in forests has a beneficial mental effect on the people doing it so destroying any forest areas is totally irresponsible and stupid

100% agree legislation for this is needed. My comment is more on the process of adding my name to this - why are we asked to choose a Region instead of a country and why then is Scotland classed as a region?
