Biography
Overview
I've been in Parliament since "day one" of 1999, and it's a huge privilege to represent East Kilbride. Before being elected, I worked in community-based housing associations in Glasgow, Clydebank, and Isle of Bute. I was also the Director of the East Kilbride Housing Association. So, I've been lucky to have two very interesting careers.
What motivated you to become an MSP?
When Scotland voted for our Parliament to reconvene, I believed MSPs should come from many walks of life and bring different experiences. I was passionate that women be well represented. That's why I stood for election. Party pals told me to "put my money where my mouth is". I'm glad I did. Over the years I've had the honour of representing Central Scotland and East Kilbride.
My career in housing involved public engagement and trying to help folk out where I could. Being an MSP is an extension of that. Community representation is the most enjoyable part of the job.
