Skills for Care and Development is the Sector Skills Council for the 1.87 million
people working in the social care, children and young people‟s sector in the UK.
It is an alliance of six organisations, including the Scottish Social Services
Council (SSSC). The SSSC is responsible for registration of the social work,
social care and early education and child care workforce in Scotland, and for the
promotion and development of education and training in the sector. The social
services sector has grown rapidly in recent years and is believed to employ
approximately 198,000 individuals in Scotland as of December 2007. The social
