It is disgraceful that ScotGov is taking the opposite view and has dragged its feet in regard to beaver reintroduction from the start. This is not to say that farmers do not face very real difficulties but these difficulties should be managed with the help of the tool of translocation and of non lethal mitigation. Recourse to lethal control is wholly inappropriate at this very early stage in the reintroduction of the species and threatens the viability of the whole project, as is the intention of some of the vested interests. Far from giving in to these interests ScotGov should be imposing limits on how close to riparian areas it is permissible to farm or otherwise exploit natural habitat. As a we face climate and species extinction emergencIes this keystone species should be permitted and encouraged to proliferate and vested interests should be faced down. It is complete madness to cull these creatures when a sensible and practical alternative is available. This is almost as bad as New Zealand dropping 1080 to control possums and killing everything by doing so. Scotland has the opportunity to support Beavers and has the greatest potential for ecological restoration.

I am very pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause for beavers and for the environment.

Lots of suitable environment to look at before lethal controls ever need to be considered.

The licences given to kill beavers (a protected species) are a joke, giving farmers freedom to murder as many as they like, ridiculous and shameful. Beavers are a wonderful addition to our landscape, improving biodiversity and habitat creation.
