First Minister visits Bosnia and Herzegovina

20 August 2016

The First Minister arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina where she was met by the British Ambassador, H.E. Edward Ferguson.

Mr Ferguson took her on a short tour of Sarajevo before she undertook introductory meetings with the Chairman of the Council of Ministers Denis Zvizdic, and the Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Igor Crnadak.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:

I am delighted to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, and have received a very warm welcome during my stay.

Although our two countries are separated by geography, I have been struck by the warmth with which many people in Bosnia and Herzegovina speak of Scotland.”

“Scotland has long-standing links with Bosnia and Herzegovina, providing support and assistance to those in need during the conflict of the 1990s

“Today’s meeting has been positive in understanding the progress made in Bosnia and Herzegovina in recent years, and the country’s priorities for future.

“I am keen to learn how we can use the memory of what happened at Srebrenica to help tackle intolerance and hatred wherever it occurs in the world.”
