Holocaust Memorial Day

27 January 2018

Today marks International Holocaust Memorial Day, when people all around the world remember the six million Jews and other minorities who were killed in the genocide during World War II.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon spoke at Scotland’s Holocaust Memorial event in Glasgow on Thursday. She also signed the Holocaust Education Trust’s book of commitment.

It was a privilege to attend the Holocaust Memorial Day event in Glasgow tonight to hear so much powerful testimony – and also to be inspired by the young people who took part. #HMD2018 #HMDGlasgow https://t.co/aUkcXwEl5R

The First Minister said:

International Holocaust Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to reflect upon the past and make clear Scotland’s commitment to building a society based on mutual trust, respect and understanding.

Seventy three years on from the liberation of Auschwitz, we must never forget the people who suffered and died under the Holocaust – and those who continue to face intolerance and hatred around the world today.
