That the Parliament acknowledges that 21 September 2020 marks World Alzheimer’s Day; understands that this Awareness Day represents an international campaign to highlight the issues faced by people affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s; recognises that there are an estimated 90,000 people with dementia in Scotland, and that around 3,000 are under 65; regrets projections that between 102,000 to 114,000 people in Scotland will have dementia by 2031; notes that an estimated 62% of people with dementia have Alzheimer’s disease; acknowledges that Alzheimer’s is a major cause of disability in people over 60, contributing 11.2% of all years living with a disability; applauds the many organisations that work tirelessly to enhance the comfort and care of people with the condition; highlights in particular the efforts of the Aberdeen Dementia Resource Centre, the Living Well Project and the Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust, which all provide support and projects tailored toward improving the lives of people in Aberdeen with dementia and those who love and care for them, and commends all care workers and family carers that support the people affected by this heart-breaking illness every single day.

That the Parliament welcomes the funding extended by the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust Hardship Fund to an additional 15 charities across Aberdeen city; understands that the Trust aims to raise much-needed cash for local registered charities to help individuals, families and communities experiencing severe financial hardship as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic; recognises that, since its launch on 1 May 2020, over £300,000 has been raised, with more than 40 organisations benefitting; highlights that Abernecessities, Miscarriage Information Support Service (MISS), the Nepalese Himalayan Association Scotland and the Russell Anderson Foundation, each located in the Aberdeen Donside constituency are to benefit from this latest round of grants, and applauds the Trust’s continued support of Aberdeen-based charities during these unprecedented times.

That the Parliament recognises that 10 September is Suicide Prevention Day 2020; considers this Awareness Day to be an excellent and necessary opportunity to raise awareness of the difficulties faced by people who have mental health issues, and to help break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide; understands that, according to the Scottish Public Health Observatory, in 2018, 784 people were believed to have died by suicide in Scotland, an increase of 14.1% on the previous year, the second highest rate in the in the UK; highlights that 74 were from the NHS Grampian area; acknowledges the impact that COVID-19 continues to have on people's mental health and wellbeing, and accepts that these effects will likely be felt for some time to come; commends the "Prevent Suicide" app, which is aimed at users in the north east of Scotland and which has reached in excess of 51,000 people, providing helpful information for those affected in any way by suicide; applauds the work of local Aberdeen-based organisations, including Man Chat, Mental Health Aberdeen, Scottish Association of Mental Health, Penumbra and Turning Point Scotland, which offer support to everyone who might need it; believes that suicides are tragedies, and reminds everyone that behind every statistic is an individual with a family and a community devastated by their loss.

That the Parliament commends the North-East Now initiative launched by Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce (AGCC) intended to promote businesses across the region that have been significantly affected by lockdown measures since March 2020; welcomes the collaboration between the Press & Journal, Evening Express, Society and Original 106FM in a Power-Week from 7 to 14 September, where all four social media accounts will retweet any company that uses the hashtag #northeastisopen, encouraging firms to boost their exposure; understands that, since its launch in June, the North-East Now campaign has pulled together a range of information, directories and blogs aimed at allowing people to find out more about local firms operating throughout the pandemic; highlights the efforts of AGCC in facilitating local people supporting local business across a wide range of industries, including retail, hospitality and wellbeing; celebrates the success of North-East Now’s previously held Power Hour, during which 60 businesses took part, and wishes all participants success in demonstrating that the "North East is Open".

That the Parliament acknowledges the concerns raised by the British Florist Association and felt throughout the industry in response to the proposed tariff on cut-flowers entering the UK from 1 January 2021; notes that a tariff of 8% will be incurred if no deal is struck with the EU and that supplementary documentation and administration requirements, together with enhanced border checks, are expected to delay imports, which might result in decreased product quality; believes with regret that a no-deal scenario looks increasingly likely; considers that this will have a significant detrimental impact on businesses that are currently struggling to recover from the COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, and calls on the UK Government to expedite negotiations to protect the livelihoods of those working in the floral sector and other businesses as the end of the Brexit transition period approaches.

That the Parliament celebrates the fundraising efforts of Lisa Simons and Sarah Cruickshank; notes that these Aberdeen mothers and their families completed a 5K walk to raise an incredible £1,800; understands that the money will be used to help fund a new sensory garden at Orchard Brae School in Aberdeen’s Donside constituency; recognises that the planned sensory garden will help provide the pupils, who have additional support needs, with a fun and interesting place to interact; commends the efforts of the Simons and Cruickshank households, and applauds everyone who donated to this very worthy cause.
