The sky’s the limit

4 February 2016

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon met Mr Ahmet Serhat Sari, General Manager for Turkish Airlines in Scotland, at the Scottish Parliament earlier this week to discuss the impact their flights is having on the Scottish economy.

The airline is increasing the number of flights between Edinburgh and Istanbul from seven to 10 a week from March 2016. Turkish Airlines say this is a sign of their confidence in the Scottish economy and that they hope to continue investing here.

During the meeting, Mr Serhat Sari presented the first Minister with gifts including a very unique model aeroplane!

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon added:

“Improving Scotland’s direct international air links is one of this Government’s top priorities and is crucial for building strong business contacts and boosting our tourism industry.

“The Scottish Government will continue to support all our airports to grow the number of direct international routes to and from Scotland. That is why today’s meeting with Turkish Airlines was incredibly fruitful in underlining our support for their aspirations to develop routes and increase flights from Scotland.

“Mr Serhat Sari outlined the company’s ambitions for development and I am encouraged that they have such confidence in Scotland’s economy.”

Mr Ahmet Serhat Sari added:

“It has been a true privilege to meet with the First Minister of Scotland. With a shared love of Scotland and hope for it to grow and prosper in the years to come, I have no doubt this very positive meeting will result in plenty of ideas shared in the future.”
