Wishing Canadians a happy Canada Day on the 150th anniversary of Canadian confederation, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:
“It is an enormous pleasure to offer my congratulations to the Canadian people.
“There are few countries in the world which hold such a strong connection with Scotland as Canada does.
“Almost five million Canadians today claim Scottish ancestry; whilst at the same time 100,000 Canadians choose to visit Scotland every year; 1,000 Canadian students currently study in Scotland’s universities; and many more call Scotland their home.
“I want to wish all of you – and all Canadians – a very happy Canada Day!”
