New bridge lights up the Forth

29 August 2017

As the countdown continues to the official opening of the Queensferry Crossing on 4 September, the First Minister visited the new bridge to turn on a stunning light display last night.

Nicola Sturgeon met with a group of workers who had played key roles in its construction, alongside local school pupils from both sides of forth, symbolising the handover and successful completion of the project. A cavalcade of construction works vehicles, vintage and electric buses and electric cars (I think?), illustrating how transport has changed in the 50 years since the Forth Road Bridge was opened, transported the group on to the bridge.

The First Minister said:

The Queensferry Crossing is a new Scottish icon and a world-class structure. This project could not have been completed without the skilled work and dedication of more than 15,000 people involved in constructing the new bridge.

“I was pleased to meet with some of them last night, to thank them personally for their commitment and to acknowledge the scale of their achievement in completing this world record breaking project.

“It was fitting that young people from the local area, representing one of many future generations who will benefit from the new bridge, were also able to be a part of this moment.

“This lighting installation, which spans the full length of the Queensferry Crossing, helps to showcase what is a stunning feat of engineering and I am sure people from far and wide will admire and enjoy the display.”
