Breaking down barriers

26 October 2016

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon recently spoke at this year’s Rehabilitaion International World Congress (RIWC) at Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

The event was attended by over 1,000 delegates from 60 countries and included HRH The Princess Royal who officially opened the Congress.

This year’s focus is ‘inclusion’ and will examine how disability empowerment and inclusion for all ages can help transform the world through employment, education and training, independent living, international relations and sport.

Ms Sturgeon said:

I’m very proud of the progress we have made in Scotland. I know that there is still much that we need to learn and do which is why this Congress is so important – not only will it increase our collective understanding of the challenges disabled people face every day, but will also help guide the future actions that we all need to take to deliver a more equal and inclusive world.”
