Eid Mubarak

25 June 2017

Wishing Muslims in Scotland and around the world a peaceful Eid Mubarak the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:

As-salaam Walaikum.

As the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close, I’m delighted to send my best wishes to our Muslim friends and neighbours here in Scotland, and around the world.

Eid ul-Fitr is a celebration that traditionally brings people together – for acts of devotion, thanksgiving and generosity.

On Wednesday, I visited the Central Mosque in Dundee, where preparations for Eid were well underway. I was there to deliver an important message – that in the wake of the Finsbury Park Mosque attack, the Scottish Government and people across Scotland continue to stand in solidarity with our Muslim communities.

We are determined that acts of this kind – which aim to sow division and fear – will not undermine the sense of solidarity that exists in our country.

That’s why it’s so encouraging to see Muslims and non-Muslims alike coming together to celebrate the end of Ramadan.

And it’s why I’m delighted to wish everyone a very happy and peaceful Eid. Eid Mubarak.”
