Back to school for the First Minister

The First Minister travelled back to her old primary school to announce free school meals for schoolchildren in P1 – 3, some 135,000 pupils across Scotland.

This is what happened when she went back to the familiar surroundings of Dreghorn Primary – this time as First Minister.

New year, new school, new policy

It was the first day back from the Christmas holidays, the First Minister started the day by reading with the children where they recommended their favourite books to her:

Time for a break! The First Minister went to the canteen to help serve up food and to launch the Scottish Government’s policy on free school lunches.

School meals are hugely important in supporting a pupil’s ability to learn and to tackle child poverty. The First Minister is committed to doing all she can to support the development of our young people and wanted to see first-hand the benefit of free school meals-and to find out exactly how the £330 extra per year will benefit families of young school children.
