3-5% of the population are diagnosed with this dyscalculia, resulting in difficulty in understanding numbers, learning how to manipulate numbers, performing mathematical calculations and learning facts in mathematics.

Do you agrees that it is important to be able to identify disabilities like dyscalculia early, allowing young people to reach their true potential?

This is something I had never heard of before despite years at school and university! Neither had my friends and family that I've told about it. Clearly there is a need for more awareness and research around dyscalculia. This petition is only a starting block for which further work should be done!

It will be even more important in a Post COVID world to ensure our children are given all the support they need to achieve the best they can. I wish I had known about my daughters learning disability much sooner and been able to find the necessary guidance and help to allow her to overcome this. These problems are not insurmountable once an awareness and help is available.

My dyscalculia was not diagnosed until my last year of university. Reflecting back on my school and university studies, my dyscalculia had a huge impact on my ability to do certain things, including my exam performance as it impacts on my working memory and ability to retain information. Had I had extra time and support, I know I would have performed better. It has been very helpful to have my diagnosis, even if it did come a bit late, as I now know that my difficulties with maths and my memory are not a reflection on my intelligence or the effort I have put in to learn things but a recognised difficulty that I can use strategies to work around.

I believe I have dyscalculia I'm which was never recognised. My sons school teacher suggested that I have it. At 40 it's too late now but hopefully this helps others.

The provision for and awareness of dyscalculia is as in important as dyslexia, and should be mandatory in primary school for any child struggling in this area.

Absolutely vital this is a recognised disability and the appropriate support is provided to assist everyone who suffers in silence.

Please understand this disability. It has stopped me reaching my full potential in my career . At age 45 I still cannot move on. Sadly the support isn't there. Please help to change this.
