Twenty years on from the official opening of the Scottish Parliament, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has highlighted some of her top 20 achievements.

Introducing Minimum Unit Pricing of alchol

The amount of alcohol sold in Scotland has fallen to a 25 year low.

Crime at some of the lowest levels since the 1970s

Over the last 10 years crime in Scotland has fallen by 42%, according to the Scottish and Crime Justice Survey 2017-18.

Around 5,500 adults across Scotland shared their experiences of crime (including crimes not reported to the police).

Scotland’s annual crime statistics have been released today. There were 244,504 recorded crimes in Scotland in 2017-18. This is up 1% over the year, though still the second lowest level since 1974.

parliament has profoundly changed Scotland’s political culture for the better,

with our nation’s lawmakers much more accessible to those they represent.

It has also enabled us to have conversations we wouldn’t have had and

to debate our own future – with the 2014 independence referendum –

generating an increase in democratic engagement.”
