Thistle Foundation Centre of Wellbeing

14 June 2016

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon officially opened the Thistle Foundation’s Centre of Wellbeing in Edinburgh’s Craigmillar area.

The foundation was established in 1944 to provide homes for disabled ex-servicemen; it now supports people living with long term condition to better manage life.

She met people who use the centre on a day to day basis, including Lorraine Hill who went to the same primary and secondary school at the same time as the First Minister. ‘It is indeed a small world,’ remarked the FM!

Next up were the InterAct group who quizzed the First Minister on her other interests…and who is her favourite Doctor Who (it’s David Tennant if you must know).

And there was just enough time for a Tai chi class before heading back to Parliament…

Before she left, however, she buried a time capsule to mark the opening of the centre. The capsule contained a number of items donated by users, with the FM contributing a personal note.

The capsule will be reopened in 2044 to mark the centenary of the Foundation.
