We are currently seeking to recruit a Health Care Support Worker for a fixed term period of 12 months; you will be trained to carry out a range of general duties to provide vital support for the Specialist Healthcare Scientists in our busy Clinical Laboratory. 
This full time contract is a 37.5 hour working week; once the individual is trained there will be a requirement to participate in 24/7 out of hours shift work. No relevant experience is required as full training will be given.

The successful candidate(s) must comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure check. Any candidate who has worked overseas for more than 3 months will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

As a vital part of NHS Scotland, NHS National Services Scotland’s purpose is to support Scotland’s Health.  We do this by providing a range of specialised support services that enable NHS Boards to focus their efforts on health improvement and delivering world class patient care.
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) Tissues, Cells & Advanced Therapeutics undertakes cutting edge research and development of new cell and gene therapies.  SNBTS also manufacture a range of tissues (eg. bone, heart valves), cells (eg. haematopoietic stem/progenitor cells) and advanced therapies (eg. regenerative macrophages, pluripotent stem cells, cytotoxic T-cells) for clinical use. These products are all manufactured in our state of the art clean room facilities according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
In support of this research, development and manufacturing function, we offer an exciting opportunity to join the SNBTS TCAT group as a Programme Manager.  The successful candidate will specifically be expected to work with the Head of Cellular Therapeutics to manage and develop a portfolio of projects.  The initial focus will be on stem cell based projects with funding and collaborations spanning academic, health service and commercial partners. 
Educated to postgraduate level in bio/biomedical sciences, you will also have extensive and demonstrable experience of programme/project management, ideally in the life sciences sector.  You should be used to working with diverse stakeholders and competing priorities whilst delivering on multiple projects. Previous experience of working in a GMP environment and/or with quality management systems will be an advantage.

The post will be located within the TCAT Directorate at the Jack Copland Centre on the Heriot Watt Research Park. 
The post is for a fixed term of 2 years in the first instance.

NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) has designed NHS Scotland Assure to improve the management of risk in new builds and refurbishment projects across NHS Scotland. The new service will be a multi-disciplinary team with subject matter experts in the fields of infection prevention and control, hard and soft facilities and building management. It will have oversight for the design, construction, and maintenance of major infrastructure developments within the NHS. It will be a quality management system for the healthcare built environment. NHS Scotland Assure will strengthen infection prevention and control in the built environment and play a crucial guidance role regarding incidents and outbreaks across health and social care.

Our forthcoming NSS service will serve to improve the management of risk in new builds and refurbishment across NHS Scotland. We are currently recruiting Healthcare Scientists to play an integral role in this service.

This role will contribute to the development, maintenance and delivery of one or more surveillance systems under the guidance of senior scientific. The post holder will provide advice and information to a range of stakeholders on built environment and health protection topics.

The service aims to support research that will provide evidence to help reduce risks within the healthcare built environment in the areas of ventilation, water, drainage, electrical and medical gas systems, fire suppression and infection prevention and control. This is really important as we all know patient safety is a fundamental requirement when delivering our healthcare facilities. The guidance produced by our service and advice provided by our subject matter experts helps ensure that patients, their carer’s and those delivering healthcare are in an environment which is not only safe but also effective and person centred. 

We are looking to recruit a Healthcare Scientist to help produce the evidence base needed to ensure that the advice given and the guidance produced by our service to support the delivery of safe healthcare facilities is based, not only on best practice but also best evidence. The successful candidate will also contribute to the delivery of new research in areas where there are gaps in our evidence base. 

As a Healthcare Scientist, the post holder will be required to provide specialised research skills and expertise to support consultants, programme leads and senior staff in the provision of specialised information, guidance, advice and support to stakeholders.  You should be able to identify, critically appraise and summarise scientific and technical literature, assimilate and present this information appropriately to groups of staff and stakeholders.  You will be educated to post graduate level in a health or research field.  You should have an enthusiastic approach with excellent planning and organisational skills and have the ability to foster and maintain good working relationships. 

Knowledge and experience of the NHS Scotland healthcare estates and facilities would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check.

Qualifications & Experience Required

You will have experience of operating at a senior management level in a diverse, complex, and expanding organisation which requires the operation and understanding of matrix management skills. 
In addition, experience at a senior level in a commercial organisation along with experience of the NHS and the dynamics of the Healthcare system, or other public sector organisation would be a distinct advantage.
You will require the highest levels of communication skills, and an open, supportive and visible management style in order to earn the confidence and respect necessary to deliver effectively the agenda on major change; to develop a culture that encourages initiative, individual and team responsibility and open communication that motivates staff.
