Peace and Unity

3 November 2017

The First Minister delivered a keynote speech at the 4th Peace & Unity Conference – “The Rights of Children”. Hosted by the Ahl Al-bait Society Scotland, the 300 attendees were drawn from faith communities, public services, and academics. This year’s conference theme was ‘Children’s Rights’.

The First Minister said:

Denying children the opportunity to grow up in a safe, loving environment is not just a tragedy for the individuals involved. It also creates serious problems for the future. That’s why I believe every country has a moral responsibility to help address this humanitarian crisis. And I’m very proud that Scotland is more than playing its part.

This conference is a great example of the contribution you make to our society. By coming together to address the major issues our children face – you’re not only helping to make Scotland a better country. You’re also helping us to play our part in building a better world – one where children of all races, faiths and backgrounds feel safe, cared for and loved.”
