Hi Mintgreenpixie:
It's embarrassing, but I'm pretty sure one of the brothers is my grandfather. My father, Donald M. Thompson came from Boston. If you wish, I can make copies of the stuff and send them to you. My father's older brother, Lindsay lived in Toronto and we visited a number of times. Someday I would like to go over and see what there is to see.

Hello,
I stumbled across your post whilst looking up Rose Cottage in Dufftown. It was built by my great-great grandfather Peter Thompson. The family came to own the Fife Woolen Mill in Dufftown and originally lived in a house beside the mill. Then they built Rose Cottage. I forget the year, but can look it up. When Peter died, his sons John, William and George ran the mill but eventually emigrated first to Canada and then to Boston. William was my great-grandfather. Left behind were Peter's widow Elspet and daughter Maggie. Maggie was an invalid of some sort but I have not been able to learn the reason. She lived to 103. My grandmother would go to Scotland and visit her on occasion. After Elspet died, Maggie continued to live in Rose Cottage with a carer until her death. In researching, I actually came across Rose Cottage for sale. It had been renamed Dullanbank House and sadly, all the rose bushes are gone. It is a lovely house! I was put in touch with the owner and we exchanged emails, but he was moving before I could get over to Scotland for a visit. I'm sure we are related. I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you would like further information. I would love the see the letters you referenced in your post and the article about Maggie's death.
