Dentists who are currently included on a dental list in England, Wales or Northern Ireland and have not worked in Scotland within 12 months (required to complete Part 2 only).
As well as all dentists who have completed Part 1.

Part 1 - Session 1 (am)

1. Participants to comply with the CPD requirements for the GDC and IR(ME)R 2018 Regulations with regards to radiation protection, relevant legislation and recent advances in dental radiography;
2. Participants to review Quality Assurance (QA) procedures to identify excellent radiographic image quality and to ensure optimal radiographic film and digital sensor processing;
3. Discuss dealing with patients presenting with technical radiographic challenges and have increased knowledge of positioning for intra and extra oral radiographic films.

Part 1 - Session 2 (pm)

1. List the key principles underpinning the Adults with Incapacity Act (Scotland) 2000;
2. Discuss informed consent and appropriate record keeping;
3. Describe what is meant by 'adult with incapacity;
4. Discuss when there is a need to consult with others prior to carrying out treatment for an adult who lacks capacity to consent.
Please ensure that you have watched the Adults with Incapacity and SDR video prior to this session, in the pre-course preparation section.

1. Review CPR and Basic Resuscitation Skills;
2. Review current recommendations and best practice for treating medical emergencies in general dental practice.
Due to Covid-19 regulations and social distancing, we will not be able to carry out a face to face assessment of your ability to carry out chest compressions. There will be an online learning session only.
Please could you send us an electronic copy of your CPD certificate if you have carried out a hands-on CPD training in the last 12 months.
If you cannot confirm you have completed a hands-on course in CPR during this timeframe you will need to produce evidence of undertaking this part of the course within the first 6 months you are in practice. If this is the case, we will provide details on how to do this.

1. Explain the principles of standard infection control precautions;
2. Explain the principles and methods of the decontamination process;
3. Identify the latest guidance taken from the guidance documents available and how to source this information.

Part 2 - Session 6 (am)

1. Review the role of Practitioner Services and the Scottish Dental Practice and local health boards);*
2. Discuss how to make claims successfully and avoid misinterpretations of the SDR and the regulations; *
3. Discuss how claims are verified including the mechanisms of prior approval claims;*
4. Continue Outcomes as above*, Case Discussion & Treatment Planning;
5. In group work and discussion treatment plan a prior approval case appropriately;
6. Discuss the legal, ethical and financial frameworks which govern NHS Dentistry in Scotland and their importance in everyday general dentistry;
7. Outline the NHS Board structure in Scotland and the function of “territorial” and “special” NHS Boards as those relate to dentistry;
8. Explain the role of Practitioner Services within National Services Scotland (NSS) and how they can support the general dental practitioner.
