Please find information regarding the Dental Core Training (DCT) induction programme
My name is Donald Thomson and I am the Associate Postgraduate Dental Dean who has responsibility for Core and Specialty training in Scotland. On behalf of the entire Core Training team, I would like to welcome you to your new post as a Dental Core Trainee in Scotland.
Few people will argue that we have had a challenging 6 months and you will all have been affected, whether in Vocational/Foundation training, DCT1/2 or general practice.
As you will know, COVID-19 is still having a significant effect on dentistry, which we anticipate will continue into your training year. Already, our plans for induction have been cancelled and we are unable to provide face to face events for groups of trainees until at least the end of 2020.
This has significantly affected our plans for the Education Programme.
The TURAS Learn website where you are reading/seeing this contains further information about the core training team, applying for study leave and your portfolio and reviews of competence progression (RCP). At present, it is expected that you will be able to achieve the usual number of supervised learning events within the deadlines indicated. The requirements for a satisfactory outcome at the end of your training year will revert to those used previously, which are outlined on the Turas learn site.
I hope that you enjoy the year ahead and are able to make the most of the opportunities it gives. Should you have any queries, please contact your Educational Supervisor in the first instance and they can liase with your Core Training Adviser, if necessary.
The essential guide to Dental Core Training contains information about supervision and the assessments you will encounter during your training, useful contacts for the NES team, as well as details of what is expected from you as a trainee in a Scotland Deanery post.
Links to wider training resources can be found on the main Core and Specialty page.
