Regular readers will know that we’re in the process<\/a> of modernising Higher National Qualifications (HNQs). This is being done in two phases. Phase 1 commenced last year and is nearing completion. Two Computing qualifications were involved in this phase: HNC Computing<\/strong> and HND Data Science<\/strong>. We’re currently finalising the component units for these awards.<\/p>\n

The second phase of developments is about to commence. Three additional Computing qualifications will be developed:<\/p>\n

  1. HND Computer Science<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. HND Networking & Infrastructure<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. HND Software Development.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    HND Networking & Infrastructure will replace two existing qualifications: HND Networking and HND Technical Support.<\/p>\n

    I’m pleased that we were permitted to proceed to development since we weren’t able to pilot the phase 1 awards from August as we planned. We’ll be looking for pilot centres for phase 2 (and phase 1) qualifications later this month.<\/p>\n

    In addition to these SQA led developments, we’re also looking for centre led proposals. The application process is now live. Proposals have to be submitted by 25 June<\/strong> so that we can make an early decision.<\/p>\n
