The test of knowledge is a web-based assessment which all participants must successfully complete within 6 weeks of sitting the mandatory training course. Access to the practice test will be sent to you by the mandatory training team.
Test of Knowledge (TOK) is required as part of Mandatory training. Once you have registered for the relevant mandatory training course (and test of knowledge) you will receive a login and password for the test of knowledge and will be able to start using the practice site. We recommend practice as much as possible in advance of the course.
The test of knowledge will be held online from various dates (see below), following completion of the mandatory training course. You should book your preferred date as soon as possible as there is limited availability. We recommend practice as much as possible in advance of the course.
Please note that the course does not cover all content of the test of knowledge, additional resources are signposted in the practice test itself. You may refer to the following Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme (SDCEP) published materials during invigilated exam conditions assessment:
• Drug Prescribing for Dentistry
• Antibiotic Prophylaxis Against Infective Endocarditis
• Management of Dental Patients Taking Anticoagulants or Antiplatelet Drugs

You will not be able to complete the test of knowledge assessment, under examination conditions, until you have completed your appropriate mandatory training days.
You will be required to sit and pass the test of knowledge within six-week of completion of the mandatory training course. You will be allowed 3 attempts per sitting and a maximum of 3 sittings in total.
If you fail to pass your first or second attempts then you will be required to pass three times under Practice conditions, before being allowed to re-sit the test under Exam conditions. If you need to sit the test of knowledge outwith the allocated six-week time period, then you will be required to also do the training days again.
