Information with regards to CPR assessment as part of Mandatory Training (For those undertaking part 1)
Since May 2020, the Mandatory Training course run by NES on behalf of Scottish Government has been delivered in an online format.
Due to the online format, it has not been possible to offer the assessed CPR component as required by the regulations. We received Scottish Government permission in May 2020, to issue a modified certificate of completion, which requires attendees to undertake an in-practice or hands-on CPR course within 6 months of being listed.
From the September 2021 MT course, there are two options open to candidates:
1.Complete the online training only and receive a certificate that will indicate that you have not been assessed for the CPR component. You will have a requirement to complete an in-practice or hands-on CPD course within the first six months of listing (ideally, as soon as is possible). The Mandatory Training certificate will remain unvalidated in this component until your Health Boards receives evidence of the appropriate training and assessment. Health Boards are aware of this option and will follow up with you directly after listing. NES will not be involved in this process. (Go to BLS online session)
2.Complete the assessed CPR component in person either during, or immediately after the course. If you successfully complete this, you will be issued with a fully validated Mandatory Training Certificate once you have passed TOK. (Go to BLS face to face session)
Please note, we are aware that some candidates are unable to travel to the UK at this time and those within the UK may choose not to travel due to COVID-19 risks. Either of the options above are therefore available but we have introduced the in-person option, with all the required mitigating measures in place to minimise risk, to allow attendees to complete this component before or as soon as they are in practice for patient safety reasons.
