Welcome to the Dental Core and Specialty Training COVID update page.  I appreciate that this is a very difficult time for everyone which is having a significant effect on your training and dentistry as a whole.   

The situation and published guidance changes regularly and this site contains frequently asked questions together with relevant communications from a variety of parties who have a role in training.

RCP guidance for Dental Foundation, Core and Speciality Trainees 2020 

Social distancing, alteration of work patterns and training opportunities have meant significant changes to the RCP process for Core and Specialty Training in 2020.  This COPDEND document outlines the principles of RCP for 2020 and includes the introduction of the COVID specific outcome 10, to be awarded where a trainee’s progress has been prevented as a result of COVID-19. 

Further detail regarding the final RCP for Dental Core Trainees is due to be published in the near future.

Supporting Covid-19 response:

Published in March 2018 by the 4 UK statutory education bodies, this document gives an initial summary of the effects of COVID on dental training.  A large section covers the principles and requirements where trainees have been redeployed.

Statement on Dental Specialty Examinations

 

The Surgical Royal Colleges postponed examination diets from March 2020.  This letter was sent from the Deans of the dental faculties explaining the situation.  For the most up to date information regarding Specialty examinations and MFDS, you should keep checking the relevant College website.

COVID-19 Statement for dental applicants

 

This document was sent to applicants for dental core and specialty training posts in 2020.  It discusses the principles for the adoption of contingency plans for recruitment to dental training posts in September 2020 and the timeline for national recruitment.   

A small number of specialty training posts in Scotland are being recruited locally and the process will differ and will be communicated to applicants.

Travel by Trainees and Students to Hospital Accomodation

This document gives guidance to trainees who stay in hospital accommodation when they are at work, but whose main home is elsewhere.
