Toothbrushing and Children

This Childsmile Development Session can be accessed and delivered by tutors using the resources provided.

The session covers :

  • The key oral health toothbrushing message.
  • Techniques for toothbrushing children's teeth.

Tutors are encouraged to design a lesson plan and activities suited to their target audience, however please find a sample lesson plan in the resources section if required.  

Notes on the presentation slides are for guidance and tutors can add their own notes to these if they wish.

NES are hosting FREE ‘Inequalities, Poverty and Children’s Rights’

Childsmile Development Sessions

This course is relevant for dental health support workers, dental nurses, dental hygienists/therapist and dentists working with young children to improve their oral health. The learning within this course is also appropriate for those working with the early years, both in the Local Authority and the Voluntary Sector throughout Scotland.

Aims:

This session sets the focus on the importance of building on your experiences and knowledge of the inequalities that some families may face or have to overcome in order to engage with health services.

Discussions will explore some of determinants of inequalities, addressing child poverty, children’s rights and some of the main barrier’s families face in accessing the services which Childsmile provide.

The learning outcomes are:

  • Explore the current state of poverty and child poverty in Scotland
  • Recognise Scottish Legislation which address child poverty and children’s rights
  • Discuss the determinants of health inequalities and proportionate universalism in Childsmile
  • Explain the purpose and benefit of signposting
  • Develop knowledge on the use and benefits of ALISS (A Local Information System for Scotland)

This is a full day’s training with 5 hours of vCPD awarded.
