Eligibility

The CalMac Community Fund is looking to support vital community services to restart or continue in each of areas supported by the fund. In particular, the fund would like to support: 

  • Services and activities addressing or reducing social isolation, including encouraging re-engagement with community activity following the pandemic. 

  • Services and activities supporting better mental health and improved well-being. 

Priority will be given to applicant groups who are smaller in size, for example with an annual income under £250,000, and those who are volunteer led. 

Who can apply?  

  • Registered charities  

  • Constituted voluntary and community organisations  

  • Community companies e.g. companies limited by guarantee, community benefit societies or Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisations'  

  • Community Interest Companies are eligible to apply if they meet the Fund's minimum governance standards.  

Examples of what the fund is looking to support  

  • Groups whose work will clearly help bring communities back together. For example, youth or elderly outreach projects, befriending services, family support groups, key community clubs and important community events.  

  • Groups whose work will improve the mental health and well-being of people within their communities. For example, counselling services, active or creative projects which help people improve mental health, and health and lifestyle projects.  

  • Improvements to well-used community spaces to ensure services can re-start or continue and provide space for people to come together. For example, support for community halls or similar to re-open to enable community groups to re-start their activity in the space, community gardens or orchards to support outdoor community activity.  

  • This list is not exhaustive. A note will be displayed on the fund page to this effect and will encourage groups to get in touch with Foundation Scotland to discuss their project before application if they're not sure. 

What cannot be supported?  

  • Applications from individuals or private businesses  

  • Applications to advance a campaign or a religious or political cause.  

  • The promotion of religious beliefs  

  • Activities that are understood to be a statutory responsibility and/or seek to replace statutory sources of funding  

  • Pre-existing costs that your organisation already incurred as a result of its day to day activities  

  • Applications that are requesting less than 25% of the total project costs
