{"id":1492,"date":"2015-09-07T14:36:52","date_gmt":"2015-09-07T13:36:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.sqa.org.uk\/computing\/?p=1492"},"modified":"2015-09-07T14:36:52","modified_gmt":"2015-09-07T13:36:52","slug":"digital-academy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.sqa.org.uk\/computing\/digital-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University of Strathclyde created a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strath.ac.uk\/digital-academy\/\">Digital Academy<\/a> in March of this year. The Academy is a collaborative initiative by the University and a number of colleges, which aims to increase the number of job-ready graduates in Computer Science and related subjects.\u00a0It follows on from the successful Engineering Academy initiative. Students will undertake the first year of their degree programme in college\u00a0and then progress directly into second year of one of a number of degree courses including <em>Computer Science<\/em>, <em>Data Analytics<\/em> and <em>Software Engineering<\/em>.\u00a0The first students to go through the Academy will enrol in college next year (2016) and progress to university the following year (2017).<\/p>\n<p>I was invited to join the <em>FE-HE Programmes Group<\/em>, which I was delighted to accept. SQA&#8217;s input is to ensure that the <em>HNC Computing<\/em> is a good foundation for this progression, and also to develop new HNC awards that articulate with some of these\u00a0degrees. I&#8217;ve previously mentioned <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.sqa.org.uk\/computing\/new-hncs\/\">the new HNCs<\/a> that my team will be producing over the coming months.<\/p>\n<p>The qualification development process has now commenced and we&#8217;re aiming to have the new HNCs available by\u00a0early next year.
