About the Role These posts are working within the High Court Team. The cases in the High court are the most serious cases that are dealt with in Scotland including murder and serious sexual offending. Victim Information and Advice Officer As a Victim Information and Advice Officer you will play a pivotal role within Scotland’s sole prosecution service. You will advise Victims, Witnesses and Bereaved next of kin in criminal proceedings calling in the High Court about the progress of cases, signposting them to support services and attend meetings with them. You will work closely with lawyers, police and other criminal justice partners to improve the efficient delivery of justice for local communities. About the Team Local Court Grampian, Highland & Islands is responsible for the preparation and prosecution of summary and Sheriff and Jury level business across all Sheriff Court and Justice of the Peace Courts in the Sheriffdom. The Aberdeen summary team is led by a Principal Procurator Fiscal Depute, who manages a team of legal staff responsible for courts in Aberdeen, Peterhead and Banff. The Inverness summary team is led by a Principal Procurator Fiscal Depute, who manages a team of legal staff primarily responsible for courts in Inverness, Elgin, Tain, Fort William and Portree but also occasionally required to attend other courts in Highland and the Islands. About the Role As a Procurator Fiscal Depute you will play a key role in the criminal justice system. You will take decisions on criminal proceedings, conduct courts and work closely with the police and other criminal justice partners to improve the efficient delivery of justice for local communities. You must be passionate about serving the public interest at all times; confident in making complex decisions, based on independent assessment of all the available evidence; and enthusiastic about public service and meeting the needs of victims and witnesses.You will be placed in Aberdeen or Inverness initially, however, you may be relocated to another office within the mobility rules for career development and for absence cover. Role Specific Responsibilities, Activities and Duties Successful candidates will initially take up posts in the Aberdeen and Inverness summary teams, but there will be opportunities to work in other parts of the Grampian, Highland and Islands team in due course. Closing Date 24th September 2021 at 5pm About the Proceeds of Crime and Serious and Organised Crime Unit The Proceeds of Crime Unit (POCU) is a multi-disciplinary operational unit of the Serious Casework Group function. The aim of the criminal confiscation provisions of the Proceeds of Crime legislation is to allow the court, following upon a conviction, to make a confiscation order requiring an accused to pay a fixed sum of money reflecting the benefit obtained from either particular criminal conduct or, in appropriate cases, from a criminal lifestyle. The Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) was established to ensure that COPFS can respond robustly to the threat posed by serious and organised crime and to reflect the priorities and the strategy set by the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce, which is co-chaired by the Lord Advocate and the Cabinet Secretary for Justice. About the Role The post-holder will be responsible for progression of their own case load whilst being flexible to the business needs of POCU and SOCUKey duties:
