A new Mandarin translation of The Prime of Jean Brodie will be released to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Muriel Spark.

The publication will carry a foreword written by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, who announced the new publication at an event at Fudan University in Shanghai to celebrate both Muriel Spark’s centenary and China’s year-long ‘Inspiring Women in the Arts’ campaign.

The day started with a Business Innovation Forum to promote Scottish businesses in China. The First Minister went on the attend a life sciences education showcase, highlighting some of the collaboration between Scottish and Chinese universities in this key sector.

Other engagements today included a meeting with Mr Yuan Yafei, Chairman of Sanpower, and a visit to the offices of China Ocean Engineering Shanghai (COES). The First Minister welcomed COES plans to invest in Dundee waterfront.

The day closed with a promotion of Scottish business and tourism at a ‘Scotland is Now’ showcase event at the Shanghai Gala Hall.
