The following week, the First Minister and her fellow MSPs returned to the Scottish Parliament ahead of the new term.

One of the traditional ceremonies which takes place ahead of the new parliamentary term is the Kirking of the Scottish Parliament.

Held at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, it is an interfaith service which takes place on the evening before the first sitting, and this year Prince Charles joined newly elected MSPs, diplomats and church leaders at the service.

As well as in English, MSPs made their vows in Doric, Gaelic and Scots.
