Welcome to Marine Scotland Information

Marine Scotland Information (MSI) is a web portal that provides access to descriptions and information about the Scottish marine environment while providing links to datasets and map resources that are made available by Marine Scotland and Partners.

MSI is part of the Marine Scotland Open Network which also includes MS Maps NMPi (maps.marine.gov.scot), MS Data (data.marine.gov.scot) and MS Assessment (marine.gov.scot/sma/) the new home for Scotland’s Marine Assessments, including Scotland’s Marine Assessment 2020. The MSODN is the marine part of the Scotland’s environment platform.

Content is grouped into various types, and you can use the next tabs to explore the content:

Information: Text and background, organised into themes that are aligned with the Scottish Government vision for managing Scotland's Seas.
Maps: Spatial data presented as interactive or downloadable map sources.
Data: Datasets, statistics, downloadable documents, and links to other websites.
Licensing: Access to documents associated with applications for Marine Licences.

This web portal brings together datasets and maps from across the MSODN as well as links to other sources to provide context and information.

You can of course search across all types of content.

Maps are either interactive web maps available through National Marine Plan interactive (NMPi), or downloadable resources for further analysis in GIS tools. We have organised maps by the type of resource. A list of all maps available on NMPi can be seen in the NMPi section.
