NHS inform is for anyone in Scotland looking for quality assured health and care information.

It aims to deliver useful and easily accessible information to all users in a friendly, accessible format, using plain English, many other World languages, British Sign Language, audio (sound) and video.

The service is highly responsive to user needs and expectations and is constantly updated to ensure its advice is appropriate and up-to-date.

As more people than ever access NHS inform using mobile devices, it has broadened its services to include apps for mobile phones, tablets and other devices.

NHS inform is more than a digital service. It’s a bridge to cross the health divide.

NHS inform is a one-stop-shop for your health and care needs with clear, factual and clinically authoritative information around the clock via the website and freephone and carries information on:

• medical conditions
• injuries
• tests and treatments
• healthy living topics - such as stopping smoking, alcohol, food and nutrition and mental wellbeing
• national health campaigns
• services provided by GPs, pharmacies and dental surgeries in Scotland
• your rights when using these services

In addition, NHS inform has a webchat facility.

Online tools and apps

NHS inform is a leading developer of digital (online) tools to ensure people in Scotland can get a better understanding of their health conditions and care needs.

These include:

• the new coronavirus (COVID-19) app with guidance on the infection and a useful symptom checker
• a 12 week weight management programme to support people wanting to reach a healthier weight.
• MSK (musculoskeletal) app with exercises and videos for people with bone and joint problems
• Scotland's Service Directory with information on health and wellbeing organisations and thousands of NHS services in Scotland
• an Info for Me tool that helps you to gather, save, publish and share your own health information

NHS inform is also testing Ask NHS inform a question - an interactive 'chatbot'. At present this is restricted to information on the coronavirus outbreak, but may be developed further.
