Coal mining country reclaimed by woodland and wildlife

This forest occupies the moorland between Fauldhouse and Whitburn. Covering land that was previously mined for Coal, Iron and Clay. This restored forest area is home to a wide range of wildlife which occupy the trees and ponds. 

The 2.5 km surfaced route is popular with walkers, dog walkers and the occasional cyclist and horse rider. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the Forest or views over the Breich Valley from the higher ground.

There are shops, public toilets and places to eat in Fauldhouse village.

Getting here

Fauldhouse forest covers a vast area between Faulhouse village and Harthill, almost reaching to Shotts in the west. There are lots of entrances (and places to park) on the north side of Fauldhouse village and along Harthill Road.

Public transport

It's easy to get to Fauldhouse by public transport: buses serve the village, and Fauldhouse station is on the Edinburgh to Glasgow Central line. The most direct entrance to the forest is to head east from the station, turning left onto Caledonian Road. Plan your journey at Traveline Scotland.
