ROLE OVERVIEW
Responsible to the Chief Engineer for engine room watch-keeping duties, planned maintenance and breakdown repair work.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY TASKS
· Observing the Chief Engineer's standing orders at all times;
· Following the Chief Engineer's instructions regarding watchkeeping duties, planned maintenance tasks to be carried out and breakdown repair work to be done
· Working under the Chief Engineer's supervision while carrying out these duties
· Maintaining an efficient watch in the engine room, reporting to the Chief Engineer any operational problems which arise and solving the problems if within his capabilities
· Recording any information on the duties, planned maintenance tasks or breakdown repairs, which has been performed, and bringing this information to the Chief Engineer's attention
· Recording any spare parts used and notifying the Chief Engineer of spare parts used, stocksremaining, and any other relevant information required for recording or re-ordering spare parts
· Ensuring that any work carried out is done in a safe, efficient manner, within the Engineering Department's field of work
· Supervising Engine Room Ratings when required
· Any other duties required by the Chief Engineer.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Essential Criteria
- Be qualified to III/1 OOW unlimited certificate of competency level
- Have a valid ENG1 Medical Certificate (MCA Approved)
- Have all relevant STCW Certificates
- Ro-Ro Ferry Experience
Desirable Criteria
- Be in possession of a III/2 2nd Engineers (unlimited) Certificate of competency
- Medium speed engine experience
- Experience acting up in the Higher Grade would be advantageous
- Be safety focused and familiar with CoSWP, permit to work and risk assessment processes
- Be able to demonstrate a strong awareness of the business environment, a robust customer interface and a proactive and positive approach to customer care
