Happy New Year

Me and my team would like to welcome you back after the Christmas and New Year holiday. If you’ve not already, I encourage you to read the review of 2022 that I posted just before Christmas.

In that post, I alluded to some challenges that the team faced last year, particularly the time we took to finalise some developments. That’s something that we’re determined to improve on this year (2023). Last year was exceptionally busy and I’m hoping for a less hectic 2023.

There are a lot of exciting developments to complete or commence. The HN Next Gen initiative will continue. The pilot of HNC Computing will complete in the Summer and we’re currently finalising the development of three modernised HNDs: HND Computer Science, HND Networking & Cloud Infrastructure and HND Software Development. These HNDs will be available to pilot during session 2023/24. Several centres are offering the new NPA Esports and it will be interesting to see how that is received. The whole SVQ/CBQ portfolio is being revised (by Skills Development Scotland); we recently developed three new Diplomas (at SCQF Level 8) and there are more to come (at Level 8 and Level 6) this year. And, of course, the various education reviews currently taking place will have a big impact on SQA.

The team traditionally makes a few resolutions at this time of the year. One of them relates to improving communications so look out for more blog posts and more Tweets from the team this year. And, if you’ve not already, please join the SQA Computing network on Yammer, where we will focus our support to centres.

Please contact the team at computing@sqa.org.uk if you have any questions.
