The National Data Catalogue (NDC)

The National Data Catalogue (NDC) is a single definitive resource of information on Scottish Health and Social Care datasets that incorporates the Data Dictionary, information on the National Datasets and New Developments. The NDC has been produced to

  • Improve provision of comprehensive metadata on national data through a single point of access
  • Eliminate duplication of information
  • Enhance support to research on health and social care
  • Encourage greater use and awareness of national data standards and definitions to improve the quality of information available to support health and social care services

Data Dictionary The Data Dictionary is a one-stop shop for health and social care data definitions and standards. The Dictionary is managed by Public Health Scotland and as new definitions and standards are agreed they will be published on the Data Dictionary site.

National Datasets section contains the full list of datasets that PHS holds, along with information about the datasets, eg: size of dataset, population coverage, overall data quality, and also publications that use these datasets and other general useful information.

New Developments section lists up and coming datasets. Once established, these will be added to the NDC in full.

Acknowledgements - PHS would like to acknowledge the ADLS (Administrative Data Liaison Service) for contribution towards the content of the National Data Catalogue; also for the use of the timeline and interactive maps.
