Material Considerations: A Library of Sustainable Building Materials has been based at The Lighthouse, Glasgow since 2012. This web based resource showcases sustainable, traditional, innovative, recycled and low carbon building materials.

Featured material: Brettstapel

A solid timber construction system, it has no glues or nails. Fabricated from softwood timber posts connected with hardwood timber dowels which have a moisture content lower than the posts; over time the dowels expand locking the timber together.

Dark grey with a medium texture, durable and hard igneous stone.

Featured material: Recycled Plastic Panel

Structural construction panel comprising a hardwearing aesthetic skin, and a foamed mixed core. The panel is 46mm in total thickness, and is extremely strong, taking over 400Kg in cantilevered loading (wall hung WC) without concern.

Bonded rubber chip safety flooring. A bonded ground treatment made from recycled tyres. When laid, the chips will not deteriorate or compact. The bonded chips can be cut to any size and be coloured depending on the required use.
