The Scottish Government is introducing a new publishing model for Quarterly GDP to provide a more timely measure of Scotland’s economic performance.
From September, Scotland’s GDP growth has changed from being updated once each quarter to a cycle of two updates, similar to the new publishing model introduced by ONS for UK GDP statistics.
-
There is an earlier First Estimate of GDP released approximately 80 days after the end of each quarter, consistent with the UK GDP First Estimate. This is more timely than the previous schedule of 95-110 days.
-
There is an updated second estimate in the GDP Quarterly National Accounts, consistent with the UK Quarterly National Accounts, at approximately 120 days after the end of the quarter.

Further information on the methods and data sources used to enable this change, and on the updated revisions policy for GDP statistics, is available in the paper published on 27 June 2018 here
