Funeral Poverty in Scotland
In November 2016 the Scottish Government hosted their first National Conference on Funeral Poverty. Speakers included Fraser Sutherland from Citizens Advice Scotland and Dr Kate Woodthorpe from Bath University and you can view their presentations here.
A New Future for Social Security Consultation on Social Security in Scotland
Between July and October 2016, Scottish Government ran a consultation on social security in Scotland, to gather views and inform future decisions, including the development of the forthcoming Social Security Bill. This has now closed.

2015
Funeral Poverty in Scotland: A Review for Scottish Government Fairer Scotland: A Summary of the Discussion so far
In October 2015 the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners Rights commissioned John Birrell, Chair of the Scottish Working Group on Funeral Poverty and Citizens Advice Scotland to provide a report on Funeral Poverty in Scotland.
In June 2015, the Scottish Government launched Fairer Scotland, to hear first-hand the issues that matter to the people of Scotland and how we can become a Fairer Scotland by 2030.
This paper provides a summary of the discussion so far.
The Scottish Government has released a leaflet entitled Arranging a Funeral? which provides advice and includes a note of useful publications and contacts when making funeral arrangements.
