Community Engagement
Supporting the engagement of people and communities in shaping health and care services in Scotland
We believe people and communities should be able to use their skills and experience to design and improve the health and care services that matter to them.
People should also have the opportunity to work together with the organisations that provide those services. We work with policy makers and service providers to ensure that people and communities are involved in planning and developing local health and care services.
Previously known as the Scottish Health Council, we launched in April 2020 with a focus on:
- best practice for engaging with individuals and communities to shape local services and influence national policy
- equality and human rights to ensure everyone’s voice is heard
- collaborating and working in partnership, and
- sharing learning.

To free up staff to support the NHS response to COVID-19, we are scaling back WMTY activites and will not be sending out WMTY20 resources this year. Asking "What matters to you?" is not just about a single day, and at times like this compassionate connections matter more than ever for patients and families, and staff.

The Scottish Government has asked us to find out about people's experiences living with ME. Thanks to everyone who contributed to our surveys, interviews and focus groups. We are currently analysing your feedback and will report in due course.

To enable health and social care staff to focus on the COVID-19 pandemic, we have temporarily suspended our role to support and monitor public involvement in service change being progressed through NHS boards and integration authorities. This includes our involvement in major service change.
