That the Parliament acknowledges the establishment of Communities Together, an umbrella group that pulls together the community response to meet the needs of Bellshill, Mossend and Holytown and Thorniewood wards of North Lanarkshire against the backdrop of the COVID-19 outbreak; understands that Communities Together operates from the Bellshill YMCA and prepares food parcels for delivery to vulnerable people, collects and delivers essentials, including prescriptions and shopping, for those who need it and also provides signposting and guidance via its helpline, where people can be linked in to befriending or a range of public and voluntary services during these challenging times; recognises that Communities Together was brought together by a range of community partners, including North Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire, as well as the community and voluntary sector and local people; understands that Communities Together is managed by the Chair and Bellshill Councillor, Jordan James Linden, and Vice Chair, Claire McElroy, who is a Health Improvement Senior at NHS Lanarkshire; notes that group runs seven days a week and that, in addition to the Chair and Vice Chair, is led each day by a team of dedicated volunteer team leaders, who are Ann-Marie Treacy and Sharon Kelly, who are from YMCA Bellshill, and Frances McKay and Angela Scott, who are from NHS Lanarkshire; recognises that these team leaders are supported by an amazing team of 70 volunteers, who are responsible for administration, picking and packing of Items, delivery and acting as follow-up callers; notes that Communities Together has, within three weeks of launching on 27 April 2020, helped 600 people with emergency food supplies, which did not include the additions of shopping, prescriptions and other tasks for their service users; believes that the group is an important lifeline for the local community at this challenging time; sends sincerest thanks to all volunteers involved in the project for their selfless acts of kindness and love to help those in their community, and wishes the project continuing success as it plays its role in responding to COVID-19.

As an amendment to motion S5M-21739 in the name of Sandra White (72nd Anniversary of the Nakba), insert at end "; further considers that constituents in Uddingston and Bellshill also recollect the words of Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestine Authority, in the article, What We Have Learned and What We Should Do, published in Falastin el Thawra, the official journal of the PLO, of Beirut, in March 1976, that 'The Arab armies entered Palestine to protect the Palestinians from what they called Zionist tyranny but, instead, abandoned Palestinians forced them to emigrate and leave their homeland imposed upon them a political and ideological blockade and threw them into prisons similar to the ghettos in which Jews used to live in Eastern Europe. The Arab States succeeded in scattering the Palestinian people and in destroying their unity. They did not recognise them as a unified people until the States of the world did so, and this is regrettable'; understands that 20% of Israel’s citizens are Arabs who chose not to flee in 1948, and who enjoy their democratic rights in Israel and contribute meaningfully to Israel society at all levels, including membership of the Knesset, with several Arabs serving as high ranking members of the Israel police and army, and believes that the tragedy of the Naqba can only be finally resolved by peaceful means and discussions between the parties involved."

That the Parliament acknowledges the significant funding received by the Scottish Personal Assistant Employers Network (SPAEN) from the National Lottery; understands that £8,300 has been awarded and that this will be used to upscale its emergency care register, which will help provide people whose social and personal care has been reduced as a direct result of COVID-19 by offering them personal assistants, and believes that this funding will provide essential support to SPAEN to deliver its important and ongoing activity.

That the Parliament welcomes the proposed initiatives by South Lanarkshire Council to invest nearly £100 million into housing, and believes that council rents continue to be the lowest for social landlords in South Lanarkshire; agrees with the Council on the importance of continuing to build new homes, improving existing ones and being fully compliant with the new energy efficiency standards for social housing, and believes that the building of houses is an important element in tackling inequality and that the Council's plans support the Scottish Government’s major expansion of affordable housing across Scotland.
