The design for this pre-union coat of arms is typical of late 17th and early 18th century coats of arms, and has been chosen because the coat of arms is located within the 17th century Queensberry House within the Parliament buildings.
It shows the Lion Rampant but no other quarters and the supporters on both sides are the Scottish Unicorns. The coat of arms has two mottoes, Nemo Me Impune Lacessit, which in Scots can be translated as ‘Don’t mess with me!’ and the other motto is In Defence, seen on top of the crest.
The coat of arms was gifted by the Heraldry Society of Scotland.
