About us
Wave Energy Scotland (WES) is driving the search for innovative solutions to the technical challenges facing the wave energy sector. Through our competitive procurement programme, we support a range of projects focused on the key systems and sub-systems of Wave Energy Converters. The aim is to produce reliable technology which will result in cost effective wave energy generation.
WES was formed in 2014 at the request of the Scottish Government and is a subsidiary of Highlands and Islands Enterprise. The aim of WES is to ensure that Scotland maintains a leading role in the development of marine energy.
Through our work, we have funded 95 contracts, committed £41.6m and been involved with 230 separate organisations, across 13 different countries.

Call for Independent Experts
EuropeWave is looking for independent experts to take part in the assessment of applications to its PCP programme.
These experts will provide an impartial assessment of the technical and commercial aspects of applications, both to the first phase and the subsequent stages of the programme. They will take part in evaluation committee meetings, and provide feedback and analysis of the applications.
Apply for funding via EuropeWave PCP programme
The EuropeWave project is inviting wave energy developers to apply for funding via its innovative pre-commercial procurement (PCP) programme. The five-year collaborative programme has opened its competitive call for tenders, which will see several wave energy projects selected for the first stage of ‘concept development’.
Quick Connection Systems - Stage 3 funding announced
Wave Energy Scotland's Quick Connection Systems has reached Stage 3, with four companies sharing £1.8 million to develop their technologies. The latest in the WES innovation programme, this call looks at technologies to quickly and easily connect wave energy devices at sea.
